We're off to the South.

 May 13, 2021

Today, we were supposed to be leaving for Sherry's after staying overnight in Tennessee.  The plan was to put on the tires on the 10th, pack the 11th, then leave the 12th.  But we are only one day late.

Because of the gas situation, we figured the east coast was most likely to have empty gas stations.  So the decision was to take I-65 south instead of I-75.  It is definitely longer, but we are in no hurry.  So as we traveled, we found a campground.  Well, almost.  We called, but they were full.  They suggested another park, KV RV Park and Storage.

We called.  Annie answered and told us to come on in.  So, did she need any info to secure a reservation?  Naw, just come on in.  We have some open spaces.  As we traveled, I started wondering what this park was like.  Asked Connie to determine the number of sites.  20.  And she didn't want to make a reservation for us....

When we finally got there, I was pleased to find they had a vacancy sign out front.  It looked like a storage lot that was being renovated to create an RV camp. As I pulled up to the office, Annie met us at the door.  If you have camped in an RV campground before, you know the drill.  They meet you, they take your money, they hand you a two page flyer with rules and regulations.  They tell you get back in your vehicle and they will escort you to your site.  Make sure you setup correctly and answer all your questions.

Not Annie.  She took my money, and had me fill out a Word composed form with name and email address.  No rules, no flyer. Handed me a slip of paper with her cell phone number, passcode for the john, and pointed to the road that led to the campsites.  "Pick anyone that is empty.  I assume you know how to hook up.  Call me if you need anything.  Glad you came."  Short, sweet, and to the point.  Refreshing.

Problem #3,247.  (Slight exaggeration.)

Attached the electricity and water.  Opened the propane tanks and checked for gas at the stove.  Turned on the water heater.  It lit as normal, but seemed to heat awfully quickly.  Opened faucets to bleed out the air.  Water is not hot, but it was just turned on.  Now the water is flowing, but no hot water.  Checked the gas ignition on the water heater, it ignites but seems to shut off very quickly.  I have water flowing. Checked the Internet.

Number one troubleshooting suggestion was to check if the bypass valve was set wrong.  That ghost struck again because the valve was still in the shutoff position.  Actually, I did check the valve when I filled the water tank.  I have a problem.  If you tell me that a switch that is pointing left is off, the next time I check the switch, I cannot remember if left is off or on.  It is just opposite.  So if you tell me that to turn off a valve you have to rotate it clockwise, I will not remember which way the next time.  I need a sign.  Apparently, the ghost on my shoulder must have whispered in my ear to turn it the wrong way.

So, I ignored the ghost and closed the bypass valve.  (I actually got on the Internet to see a valve and find out how to close.)  Now to make sure I bled the lines.  Unfortunately, the water started to slow down.  Problem # 3,248.  Water is getting worse.  What did that ghost do?

I decided to see if the water heater had water in it.  (I got on the Internet and watched a video on how to properly fill the water tank.  My Airstream manual did not specify.)  The video also suggested the proper way to drain your tank and flush it out.  Woops, that has never been done.  So, I drained and watched massive amounts of calcium deposits flow out.  No water, no hot water, no problem... Yeah, right.  Well, I was able to fill the water tank, but no water at the faucets.

I figured that the lines may have been plugged.  I removed the water from the campground and turned on the water pump.  No water.  OK, we work on this a Sherry's.
