Heading North via TN

 Starting North

June 1, 2021

Today we started North. Driving was easy without any problems. Until...

A lot of our travel is on smooth 4 lane roads. But occasionally, there is the small bridges with transitions back to road that are a little bumpy. It was so today. The bump was nothing to get overly concerned with, but the resulting effect was. Right after the bump, I got a warning from the car electronics that the trailer was no longer electronically attached. Then I got a notice that the trailer is connected. Anxiety level just increased. Very shortly I noticed a church and parking lot off the road to the right. I pulled in.
The pigtail to the trailer was still attached. I assumed the bump caused the connection to momentarily disconnect. Upon inspection, the swipe connectors appeared to be separated so I used my knife to push them back together. Reconnected, checked  and got back on the road. No problem, it was a Baptist church.
But afterward, application of the brake seemed excessively strong. The brake controller has a variable setting from 0 to 10. I had it set at 5.5 but now it felt like a 10 every time. I drove it that way for about 100 miles and it still felt the same. When we stopped at Cracker Barrel, I reset the controller to 3.5.  Things felt better after that. But the whole time I drove with the brakes excessively strong, I imagined the brakes catching fire and burning up the trailer. What an imagination.

Stayed at KV RV Park and Storage again. Disappointed with cleanliness this time. Doubt we will stop there again.

Short drive to Chickasaw State Park. Took about 3 hours. We stopped at KV park last night because the extra 3 hours was just too much. Glad we did.

Not sure how they did it, but the campsites are cut right out of a woods and each site has a concrete base and are level. Nice to not have to block level the house.

Scoped out the lake. Purchased fishing licenses for TN and settled in for supper.

June 3, 2021. Happy Anniversary and Happy Birthday Phil.

Celebrated with a pancake and bacon breakfast. Great meal. Interesting note. Our milk started with us. Fresh milk that normally lasts 2 weeks. We got the milk on May 12. Today is June 3. 3 weeks and 1 day. The one container was not opened. It had a thick layer of cream on top. Very thick layer. This jar had not been opened since we left. Milk was still fresh and hadn’t soured. Need to remember this.

After breakfast and lunch, we hiked around the lake. Pretty lake. Small. They have a foot bridge that goes across the entire span. Found spots to fish. Found worms and firewood. We are set for the evening.

Well, this evening we lit the fire. Probably, the best state park firewood we have ever bought. Dry, hard wood. Caught easily. So our anniversary steak was cooked over open fire, yellow potatoes fried in butter with Julio’s seasoning. Green beans on the side. And S’Mores for desert. Not sure Long Horn Steak house could have done better. Last year on this day we were sitting in a Red Lobster parking lot enjoying our anniversary dinner. What a year.

Today we fished. Well, we tried. The area was a photo shot.

Con had the most bites. But were small, too small for my smallest hook. The worm kept getting bitten off.

That afternoon we met the park ranger for a nature hike. Actually, she was their ranger intern. We were her only audience. She was obviously new so we didn’t learn a whole lot, but had a good hike. She just needed to increase her knowledge base.

Today, it is a nice day. So, plan is to fish. Again, we tried. Then came Hudson. So he throws in his line and immediately pulls in a fish. Show off. So he releases the small fish and tosses his line in again. Immediately, he gets another fish. He is really smiling and laughing. Show off. He throws his line in again and … Yep, another fish. This time he asks if I wanted the fish. Salt in the wound. I have up my spot and watched another 3 fish come in. My problem was hook size. He had one that fit into their little mouth.

We picked up two more firewood bundles. So tonight we’ll do S’Mores. Hooked up the TV antenna. We were able to receive two channels. But one was golf. Life is good, isn’t it?  Memorial tournament. Jon Rahm had to withdraw with a 5 stroke lead because he tested positive for Covid. Amazing.

Just as I was about to lay the fire, it started raining. Maybe later.

Sunday. So we thought we were going to watch Calvary. But we fought with the “free” Wifi all morning. It ended with a no-go. I even sent a complaint to support in hopes of getting it back. No way José.
Since the weather didn’t look that bad, we chose to walk to the lake and back. Got in a mile. Boy, did the campground empty out. By 4 pm, there were hardly anyone there.

Rain off and on. Decided no fire and put the wood in the truck. By afternoon, the clouds looked pretty, so we decided to go to the dump and get ready for leaving in the morning. It proved to be a good idea. Rained in the morning, so all we had to do was disconnect water and unplug electricity.
